We would be sitting at the kitchen table, coffee was being made in an old style percolator on a gas stove, and my Grandmother would be making tortillas on the other end of the table. The coffee would be making little sounds and after awhile the coffee pot lid would lift off a little bit and then it would lift off a little more and then the coffee would spill out onto the stove and she’d say, “Okay, coffee is ready.” That was the signal. Once it spilled out all over the stove, coffee was ready. She’d get a dish cloth and wipe down the stove.
Now we can serve coffee.
