John and his wife are talking as they walk in the night. “We wished we had thought of a way to stay in Encinal way back then. But it didn’t work out. But now, most of the people that we loved and cared for the most are gone; your Grandparents, Ben, Oscar, Beto, the Holcombs. We were very fortunate to have lived there as adults in your childhood home. A lot of people don’t get to do that.”
They walk up to a train depot. John says, “Even though we didn’t get to go back, for us to have lived there, you at least got a chance to live there, live with my grandmother, how fortunate we were.
John says, “We moved over here and the depot moved here too.” Then they look down and there is John, as a young boy, lying on the depot floor with his hands behind his head, looking up at the stars.
